The latest club day was held on the river Nene at Wansford and with good reports during the week leading up to it, a good day was anticipated. Unfortunately the colour had significantly dropped out of the water and a cold North Easterly wind, made it a difficult day for some.
In spite of the weather and river conditions, a decent turnout of members arrived for the draw. This included Neil Speechley who came along for his first club day, as he wanted to improve his knowledge of the clubs venues and the tactics required for them. It wasn't long before members were freely giving him advice and tips, on his tackle set up, rigs and the tactics required for his days fishing from peg 17.
The pegging for the day was from peg 12 to peg 21 and soon became apparent that the lower pegs were the ones to be on form, it seemed President Trump had built his wall around peg 16 preventing fish getting into the pegs from 17 to 21.
So unfortunately for Neil , not without trying and members willing him to catch, along with two of the clubs top anglers, they remained biteless all day.
The top weight and winner on the day from peg 12 having a superb days sport, was Nigel Collis with 5lb of roach and dace to 6oz using stick float tactics with maggot as hookbait.
Ray Torrington was second from peg 14 with 3lb 3oz, again of roach and dace caught on the pole and stick float using maggot.
Dave Marzell came third from peg 15 with 2lb 07oz , again using pole and sick float for a net of roach and dace
Ron Needham came 4th from Peg 13 with 2lb 06oz of roach and dace.
The next club day is on the 4th March with the venue to be confirmed in the week leading up to it.
