Latest River Reports

- Read the latest river news from our Rivers Bailiff Dave Dawkins, posted on our Facebook page.

Been asked a couple of times now after my last post, where the “Refuge” at Stibbington can be found. Stibbington can be approached on the A1 from both North or Southbound. Once you’ve arrived at the Stibbington Services (Cafe/Lorry Park), turn into Church Lane and then with the church on your left, bear right. You’ll then arrive at what appears a gateway to a property, bear right onto the concrete roadway at the side of the property and continue until you get to treatment works. Take a left onto field track which will take you down (about 25mtrs) to gated entrance of the “Refuge”
The small bridge that you cross at the gate is the beginning of the Refuge and this is the start of the permitted fishing area. FISHING ALONG THE SHORT EASTERLY DITCH THAT FEEDS THE REFUGE OR THE MAIN RIVER IS ILLEGAL. The Refuge then continues in a southerly direction and permitted fishing ends at the footbridge that crosses the Refuge on the footpath that leads to road for Nene Valley Railway.

Have been buying Boy’s Toys again and now kitted out with a useful piece of kit, not only for the next season, but a useful tool during the close season. I’ve invested in a thermal handheld camera which will be really effective to look for illegal activities, especially along such lengthy areas like the Wide Welland/High Bank during hours patrolled during darkness.
I hope you took the opportunity to take part in the EA survey regarding the Close Season debate. I have my personal views on the subject and at least hope that certain things are modified to safeguard the future of our beautiful......wonderful sport.
