Latest River Reports

- Read the latest river news from our Rivers Bailiff Dave Dawkins, posted on our Facebook page.

Due to unfavourable conditions out on the rivers, very little angling is taking place, except of course by the committed predator types braving the conditions in short sessions.
Spoke to one of my EE predator friends this week who assured me he had landed an 8Kg (17.5lb) Pike near Crowland. As he is such a fine angler and I consider him a genuine fellow, I have no doubts at all about the validation of the claim.
The water along the Welland has today risen over a foot and is now flowing high and fast over Low Locks in Deeping St James and above the wharf wall on the moorings at Crowland Bridge, where the pace of the flow has also increased and there are numerous “rafts” of debris, which combined with the deepening colour of the water, has made sport virtually impossible today.
However there are some wonderful natural sights to observe, such as a huge flock of Lapwings, whose numbers I estimated as 100+.

On the Wide Welland I had a rainbow fall within 10yds of me this morning......where’s a spade when you need one ?
Please be careful on the banks as although in some areas it’s obvious where the water has risen over the bank, but along the majority of the bank it’s difficult to see where the bank ends and the wet stuff starts due to the length of the grass etc..
Catches have been difficult due to not only the colour, but also the speed of the flow. There has however been some action for those using a dark, small/medium lure. Haven’t heard of any Zander showing yet, but there’s been a few small/medium Pike landed.

Work Party Saturday 9th November - CANCELLED
Sadly the lake has flooded yet again and bank conditions rule out any activity.
We will keep you advised of any further dates, it is looking like the 'Weed & Chalk' may now be moved to April.

The lake is closed for fishing, keep an eye on the web site for latest news on opening again.

Spent the best part of the morning patrolling the Wide Welland from Deeping St James to Four Mile Bar near Spalding/Cowbit.
The river is flowing steadily and dropping. The colour is also dropping and for float/feeder anglers it will soon be perfect conditions, obviously dependant on the amount of rain over the next few days.
Pleased to meet so many predator anglers this morning, which although it was mild, the drizzle didn’t ease off until around 10.30am.......but still they were enjoying themselves.

Also please be careful if your approaching by car via Deeping St Nicholas as parts of the road is coated by thick mud from the fields.
