And just like that we are back on the rivers again, with another summer closing and another winter series beginning. The annual Remembrance Shield would be fished in cool but dry weather with a light wind. The recent rain had not been enough to offer any colour to the water. 15 Anglers would be spread out along the Sibson stretch, all of them hoping to avoid the multiple Pike that dominate the River Nene opposite Yarwell Mill.
As is customary for this fixture the match secretary signalled a 2 minute silence at 11:00. Offered as a sign of respect to all those who had served for their country and for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
This year’s winner is Paul Dotchin with 10lb 15oz from Peg number 17. Paul rotated through multiple methods to keep the fish coming. Waggler to the far bank on red maggot, 8m pole line on pinkie and a top 3 margin line for his fine catch of Perch.
Second place was Steve Borrett with 7lb 9oz from Peg number 16. Steve also rotated his approach through the day with half his weight coming on the waggler to the far bank on bronze maggot. Steve also fished an 8m line over ground bait, hemp and pinkie.
Third place to Andrew Wilson with 6lb 11oz from peg number 19. Multiple methods again being the way forward, with waggler, 9m pole line and a 11m worm line.
Section wins for Ray Torrington and Jason Chatham
