Match Result: Sunday 30th March 2025 Venue: DSJAC Horseshoe Lake It has been a very wet winter, with the rain starting back in September. But March had been fairly dry and for the final match of the 2024-25 season we used the club’s own Horseshoe Lake. It would be “Silvers” only for this match and twelve anglers (eleven on time) met in the car park under bright blue skies but with a breezy north westerly pushing across the lake. Today was the fifth and final round of the Deeping Individual League series (DILS). Over the winter months anglers fish five rounds and get to take their best points total from four results. Alan Thomas was leading the way into this final round with Steve Borrett and Jason Chatham the only two anglers that could catch him. Also today, the club’s much coveted “Non Cup Winners Cup” was up for grabs. Awarded to the highest placed angler that had not already won silverware this season. Final placings in other competitions were also confirmed, with Jason Chatham taking the 2024-25 Club Champion position with a gap of 22 points from Pete Wray in second place. The club champion points are accumulated over 12 rounds through the summer and winter matches. Also, the Billing Challenge Cup for a second year was won by Nathan Grech. Nathan fished only summer matches, but still managed to finish 19lbs ahead of Pete Wary. The Billing Challenge cup takes an angler’s top 3 summer weights and adds them to their top 3 winter weights. Back to the result and Alan Thomas kept up his top winter form by taking his third win. This gave him maximum points and a clear 6 point gap over Steve Borrett in second place. Alan finished with 7lb 11 oz from peg number 5. Fishing at 11m on the pole, with double red maggot over ground bait, he found 2 nice Skimmers. Adding some Roach from his 5m line on pinkie. Second place on the day, but a new name on the “Non Cup Winners Cup” was Stephen Smith. Stephen took 4lb 11oz from peg number 35. Stephen fished single pinkie on the top 2 for Roach, with his second line at 10m where he caught his single bream over ground bait. Third place was tied with Mick Wright and Steve Borrett both catching 3lb 12oz next to each other on pegs 16 & 18. Steve caught his single bream on the ground bait feeder but both anglers fished most of the match on a 4m whip line. Seal spotting ! Not a favourite pastime amongst river Anglers, but if you do happen to spot one please assist the local Clubs and P&DAA in gathering evidence by completing this form. https://my.nativeforms.com/sealreporting This one was spotted in the River Nene at Castor Sunday 9th March 2025 Video Credit: Michael Douglass
END OF SEASON Reminder to all Anglers that March 14th ends the course fishing season. Our Fish Refuge at Stibbington is open during the close season.
Found on River at Sibson..... If you have lost them please message here.
Caught on the River Nene in swollen river conditions using a 30g feeder and single red maggot. No, I didn't see the bite and had to consult several members as to what is was. For those who don't know its a Bullhead !
Match Result: Sunday 3rd March 2025 Venue: River Nene at Sibson The final trip onto the river for this season was preceded by yet more midweek rain. But a few dry days had let the Nene level at Sibson return to normal, even if the flow had not dropped off completely. A very frosty start with the promise of very light winds and a full day of sun. 18 anglers signed up to fish in the fourth round of the Deeping Individual League Series (DILS) with Alan Thomas looking to extend his current lead. Also today, the anglers would be fishing for the Several Fisheries Championship. This is a Club Cup normally fished on the River Welland and recognises the Club taking single ownership of the river. Back then nearly all club matches were fished on the River Welland through the Deepings, this stretch being known as the Several Fishery, because several people, 20 in all, owned one share each. First place on the day went to Paul Dotchin with 6lb 8oz from Peg number 16. Paul's methods included the flat float and pole feeder on top 4 and a bleak rig on top 2. Fishing pinkie over ground bait. Second place went to Pete Wray with 4lb 2oz from Peg number 15. Pete fished the pole feeder at 5m, with maggot or pinkie on the hook over ground bait. Third place was shared with 3 Anglers all weighing in with 3lb 11oz. Ian Benton from peg number 5. Ian fished the pole feeder on top 5 with worm or maggot over ground bait. Steve Borrett from peg number 10. Steve fished a 4m whip float line with maggot or pinkie. Alfie Kendall from peg number 14. Alfie fished the whip feeder at 5m with pinkie over ground bait. There was also a tie for a section win with both Alan Thomas and Lyndsay Horseman sharing the section.
