DSJAC Angling Rules

  1. DSJAC Membership runs Annually from May 1st until April 30th, Membership fees, Horseshoe Lake fees, and Day ticket costs will be as stated on the website, relevant advertising leaflet, or day ticket.
  2. DSJAC Membership Cards, Day Tickets and Environment Agency Rod Licences must be produced on demand to any DSJAC Bailiff or Club Officer by any person fishing or having fished on any Club Waters.
  3. All Membership Cards and Day Tickets remain the property of DSJAC and may be seized by a Bailiff or Club Officer who shall then advise the Head Bailiff and Secretary of the circumstances, such persons cease to be members of DSJAC. They may appeal for re-instatement of Membership to the General-Purpose & Finance Committee
  4. Monies paid to the club are not refundable without agreement of the General-Purpose & Finance Committee (GPFC).
  5. Any abuse or obstruction to a Bailiff or Club Officer will be considered unacceptable behaviour and may bring exclusion under Rule 18 of the Club constitution.
  6. Junior members or guests under 16, must be accompanied and supervised by an Adult at all times whilst on DSJAC waters or whilst attending any Match or other event organised by DSJAC.
  7. The upper age limit for Junior Anglers shall not exceed 16 years on the 30th April prior to the start of the new season on 1st May.
  8. Senior Citizens membership shall be restricted to persons having attained the age of at least 65 years on the 30 April prior to the start of the new season on 1st May.
  9. Members having paid just the Rivers Membership Fee may take up to two guests per day on Club Waters on purchase of Guest Day Tickets except at Horseshoe Lake Wansford. Members who have not paid the Lake Membership Fee may fish Horseshoe Lake on purchase of a Lake Day Ticket, available on line and before fishing commences, they are not permitted to take guests.
  10. Members having paid both the River Membership Fee and the Lake Membership Fee may take ONE Guest on payment of a Lake Day Ticket, available on line and before fishing commences.
  11. Members are responsible for the Acts and behaviour of their Guests whilst on any DSJAC fishery.
  12. Any person found fishing DSJAC waters and unable to produce the relevant Membership Card or valid Day Ticket shall purchase a Day Ticket. (unless a junior angler, when Rules 6 and 7 will apply).
  13. Instructions as to permitted dates and times of fishing club waters are contained within the Information Section printed in the Schedule of Waters on the website, and on Guest Day Tickets. These instructions must be complied with at ALL times; any breach of this rule may be dealt with under Rule 18 of the Club constitution.
  14. Members are required to ensure that all gates are securely closed and locked Immediately after either entering or leaving any fishery. Padlock code numbers where required are printed on the Membership Cards for Members only and are NOT to be divulged to any other person. Breaches may be dealt with under Rule 18 of the club constitution
  15. The rules of the club are binding; any cases of dispute shall be referred to the Secretary. The General Management Committee’s decision is final on any matters referred to them by the Secretary.
  16. NO BBQ’s or Open Fires are permitted at any club waters, unless authorised by the committee.
  17. Litter MUST be removed from the fishery and properly disposed of, Rule 18 of the Club constitution applies.
  18. There shall be NO transfer or removal of fish from any Club fishery without permission from a Club Officer. All cases of fish theft will be reported to the Police for prosecution.
  19. Members are permitted to only occupy ONE swim or peg and if using more than one rod where permitted must use common sense so as not to cause interference with other members. Anyone found flouting this rule may be required to leave the fishery by any Club Officer or Bailiff.
  20. No Baited Rod or Pole shall be left unattended in the water at any time.
  21. The use of Keep nets is Banned for retention of Carp on all Club Waters; all Carp must be returned immediately to the water except during a bona fide match when other rules shall apply.
  22. No Live fish baiting is permitted on any Club waters.
  23. The use of any Automatic or Self Hooking devices such as “Magic Twig” are NOT PERMITTED to be used on any DSJAC waters.
  24. Due consideration of all fellow anglers should be given at all times and this includes: Playing radios quietly and Fishing within the confines of your chosen or allotted peg.
  25. On any Work Party day fishing is not permitted on any water where work is being undertaken until after 3 pm, locations will be published on the Website. During any Match authorised by the Management Committee the water being fished will be closed to members not involved in the match until Two hours after the end of the Match, location and times will be published on the Website and a Notice will be placed in advance at the fishery.
  26. Fish Welfare and Safe Handling to be practiced at all times. Our recommended Best Practice includes:
    Assemble Landing Net and pole before fishing commences
    Use a suitable disgorger to unhook if required, whilst cradling the landing net between your knees and off the ground, or use a wet unhooking mat or cradle.
    If photographing keep the fish and hands wet, holding closely over the wet mat / cradle.
    Return the fish to the water ASAP in your landing net.
    The use of a wound antibiotic agent (ie Propolis) is encouraged, available at selected and identified points around Horseshoe Lake.
  27. Night fishing on our rivers (including the Refuge) is for members only. However, if members wish to take ONE guest only at any one time, whom they must accompany at all times, they MUST PURCHASE IN ADVANCE, 2 consecutive dated day tickets, one dated for the day of arrival and one for the day of departure or multiples of days thereof.
  28. Horseshoe Lake closure dates. The fishing season for Horseshoe Lake is May 1st to March 31st and the Lake is closed to ALL anglers throughout the whole of April. This is a condition of our lease with the landowner and is not negotiable. A separate lock combination restricted to Committee Members is applied at the Horseshoe Lake Entrance Gate Annually throughout the Month of April.
    NB: There are additional Rules applicable to Horseshoe Lake, members intending to fish the Lake should read and comply with these accordingly.  A copy is displayed on the Notice Board at the entrance.

Horseshoe Lake Rules

These rules are in addition to the Club Angling Rules

  1. No Entry to the fishery before DAWN and you must exit before DUSK
  2. Night fishing is not permitted between dusk and dawn.
  3. Gates must be securely closed and locked immediately.
  4. Barbless hooks only, maximum size 8, Except whilst Pike fishing when there is no hook size limit.
  5. No Braid lines or hook links, Metal traces are only permitted whilst Pike Fishing.
  6. The use of any Automatic or Self Hooking devices such as ‘Magic Twig” are Not permitted to be used.
  7. All fish must be safely returned to the Lake as soon as possible after unhooking. No Fish may be removed from the Fishery.
  8. Landing nets must be dry before fishing commences.
  9. Keep nets may only be used in Club Lake matches. They are to be laid on the bank for a minimum of 15 minutes prior to the match start.
  10. Only Running feeders and Leads may be used.
  11. A DSJAC club bailiff or Management committee member may request any angler to show the terminal tackle on any Rod or Pole actively being used or Visibly assembled for use.
  12. Failure to comply with Rule 11 will result in Immediate Termination of DSJAC Membership
  13. A maximum of 2 rods per permit holder to be in use at any time.
  14. All Members’ litter and waste MUST be removed from the fishery
  15. No fires or BBQs are permitted at any time.
  16. Lake Permit Holders are permitted one guest on pre-purchase of a Horseshoe Lake Day Ticket.
  17. High oil content trout or halibut pellets are not permitted as hook or ground bait.
  18. The fishing season for the Lake is from May 1st to March 31st and the Lake is closed to ALL anglers throughout the whole of April. This is a condition of our lease with the landowner and is not negotiable.

    A separate combination lock with a different combination to normal club locks is applied to the Lake entrance gate at the bottom of the access road to prevent entry to all but the Management committee members for work party purposes.
