Match Result: Sunday 1st June 2025 Venue: Decoy - Horseshoe Lake Decoy and its Horseshoe lake for the first visit of this season. Seventeen anglers turned out for what should have been a bright warm start to June. Some were regretting the choice of shorts whilst others regretted not bringing a jumper in the windy conditions. Today’s overall winner would be replacing Nathan Grech’s name on the Doxam Committee Rosebowl with the 3 time consecutive winner not fishing today. The original Doxam trophy was a stuffed fish in a case, which was donated by Fred Doxam who used to live at The Mere in Deeping St James. This venue was often used by the club for Junior and Committee matches. The stuffed fish was sold on the internet and the proceeds used to buy the Rosebowl. It was also the first round of the Fenland Cup. Fished over 4 rounds at both Decoy and Kingsland and won by the angler with the highest points total from the 4 rounds. Current Fenland Cup holder Pete Wray would be looking to get off to a good start. Finally in a rather shorter time span this year, it would also be the 3rd and final round of the individual Knockout Trophy. Ray Torrington would be looking to retain his crown, fishing a 3 way final against Jason Chatham and Stuart Baxter. The overall winner and new name on the Doxam Trophy was Club Match Secretary Jason Chatham, finishing with 47lb 8oz from peg number 18. Jason Fished method feeder to the far bank using F1 sweet micros and 7mm Pink Wowsers. Jason also gets his name back on the Individual Knockout Trophy beating Ray and Stuart. The “weigh in” team would like to apologise to Jason for the winning picture, emptying the weigh sack before his moment of glory in front of the camera, with his catch ! Second Place was Club Chairman Andy Wilson (wearing the Treasurer’s Jumper). Andy finished with 41lb 2oz from peg number 6, using a variety of different coloured Wafters on the pellet feeder to the far bank and to the side of the Lily pads. Third Place was Club Treasurer Ray Torrington (had a coat and long trousers). Ray finished with 40lb 1oz from peg number 2 Sections wins for Neil Speechley, Pete Wray and Joe Price. Match Result: Sunday 18th May 2025 Venue: DSJAC Horseshoe Lake An algae bloom at Float Fish Farm on Horseshoe Pool prevented our match from going ahead. So an alternative location was needed for the 12 Anglers. Other local venues were fully booked, so it was a return to the fluff at our own Horseshoe Lake. Consideration was given to the pleasure anglers already fishing and pegs were selected in the fluff free zones. Today anglers were competing in the Club Cup and with last years winner Nathan Grech not available to defend his crown, a chance for a new name on the trophy. Also, the second round of the Individual Knockout Cup with Anglers paired up for an additional edge. The overall winner from one of the hot pegs was Phil Price. Drawing peg number 19 his much favoured surface controller and dog biscuit would be his go to method. Despite finishing with 103lbs 5oz, Phil still bemoaned the many fish that got away. Second place to Steve Borrett with 64lbs 1oz from peg number 33. Steve caught using dog biscuit on the surface until he was fluffed out and opted for 2+2 on the pole with Luncheon Meat. Third place for Stuart Baxter with 42lbs 13oz from peg number 36. Stuart also fishing the surface controller and dog biscuit, along with the straight bomb and 6mm pellet. Match Result: Sunday 11th May 2025 Venue: DSJAC Horseshoe Lake New Season – more Fluff !! The fine and settled weather had given the Willow trees time to shed their fluff on the lake. Very light winds meant that the lake surface was a constant challenge to find a clear spot. Thirteen anglers including one of our junior members fished the opening match of the 2025-26 Club day calendar. Today's competition today would be round 1 of 3 in the Wade Cup. The angler with the highest weight from 3 rounds being the champion. Current holder is Stuart Baxter who won last year by a clear margin of 20lbs. Also, the luck of the draw bag would play a second part in pairing up anglers for the Individual Knockout Cup. The winner of each pairing would go through to the next round. The current holder is Ray Torrington who beat Stuart Baxter in the final. The overall winner on the day was Antony Johnson with 92lbs 3oz. Antony drew peg 18 (same as last years 1st round) and fished Pellet waggler where he could see his targets and finished up on the Hybrid feeder with pink Wafter to the far bank. Second on the day was Ray Torrington with 84lbs 7oz from Peg number 15. Ray fished method feeder to the railway bank and dropped to the margins on cat meat for his last 2 fish. Horseshoe lake re-opens on Thursday 1st May 2025 Make sure you have the new Gate Code with you. The Committee and a few volunteer members have been working hard to get the lake looking its best for the start of the new season. Most of the issues were as a direct result of the continual flooding through the winter. Among many other jobs, we have managed to; Replace some of the platforms that had rotten. Trimmed trees back. Tidied out the Containers. The wiring to the electric fence has been replaced due to heavy corrosion. The control panel for one of our aeration systems also needed replacing. Improved the Security Camera position and Solar Panels. And finally, we have swapped the Portaloo Company this year and they have just delivered a nice new toilet to the lake. Please take some time to remind yourselves of the Club & Lake rules, particularly around your tackle. We will be performing more spot checks this year following the discovery of oversized barbed hooks and braded lines. The rules can be found on our Club website.
