Thanks to the hard work of the volunteers at the April Work party’s the new season kicked off with significantly less fluff on the water than previous years. The lake looked in great condition and the warm weather had started the fish feeding well.
Conditions on the day were much colder than the previous couple of days, strong breeze and overcast conditions meant it was more of a coat day than a t-shirt one. With sixteen anglers in attendance today’s competition would be round 1 of 3 in the Wade Cup. The angler with the highest weight from 3 rounds being the champion. Current holder is Ray Torrington who won last year by a clear margin of nearly 70lbs.
Also, the luck of the draw bag would play a second part in pairing up anglers for the Individual Knockout Cup. The winner of each pairing would go through to the next round. The current holder is Jason Chatham who beat Ray Torrington and Stuart Baxter in last year’s 3-way final.
Overall winner on the day was Jason Chatham with 104lbs 5oz from peg 36. Jason fished the pole on top 2 + 2 to take four Bream in the first hour on sweetcorn, fishing pellet shallow and switching lines to avoid any contact with the reeds.
Second was David Pike with 93lbs 14oz from peg number 17. David fished bomb and pellet, method feeder and pellet waggler also taking 4 bream in his catch at 8m.
Third was Dave Preston with 90lbs 6oz from peg number 19. Dave fished the pellet waggler across to the far bank.
