Before you know it the summer has gone and we are back into another winter river series.
Deeping St James and the River Welland is the traditional location for this fixture and today was a mild and foggy one. This would be the annual Remembrance Shield held with a 2 minute silence to honour those that had served and those who had paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Welcome to Iggy Prackauskas joining us for the first time and good to see the river anglers coming back to the club day events.
Fourteen anglers pegged to suit the “hot” lower numbers with a few others spread upstream of the road bridge. Somehow the fish didn’t get the message and had spread themselves the opposite way round!
Dave Preston made the most of the space and the fish to finish in top spot. Dave finished with 9lb 3 oz from peg number 16. Fishing two lines on the pole with maggot over ground bait for a nice bag of Roach.
Second place to Steve Borrett, also with plenty of space and fish with 8lb 9oz from Peg number 19. Steve fished the 4 and 5m whip with bread punch then pinkie loose feeding pinkie, dark ground bait and a little hemp. Steve’s weight included a stunning Perch of over 3lb taken on single pinkie on a 22 hook. Also landed but not counted, was a Pike of 4lb as well !
Third place to Paul Dotchin who weighed in 7lb 10oz from the “lock hole” peg number 25.
Section wins for Antony Johnson and Ian Benton.
Highlight of the day was a visit from club member and club day regular Ian Martin – Great to see him out and about and on behalf of all at DSJAC we wish him all the best in his recovery.
