Match Result – Sunday 20th August 2023

Second visit of the season to Decoy Lakes and a much warmer welcome for anglers with tea, coffee and breakfast roles on offer. Settled weather with temperatures reaching the mid twenties, anglers had one eye on the fishing and one ear on the radio for the women’s world cup final. A first attempt on Decoys’ Beastie lake for many of the thirteen anglers, but recent results have shown it to be in poor form.

Today would be round 3 of 4 in the Fenland Cup, with points to be gained before the last match in October. Anglers were also competing for the John Slack memorial Trophy. John was a long standing committee member at the club.

Current Fenland Cup holder Paul Wild drew peg number 3 and won the match with an impressive 184lbs 13oz. Paul fished bomb and pellet at just under half way across to the island. Paul then changed to fish pellets in the margin for the last hour.

Second place went to Paul Sugarman with 100lb 7oz from peg number 8 in the corner. Paul managed most of his catch with the pole on the deck in the left margin with 6mm pellet on the hook and feeding 4mm pellets frequently.

Third Place to Ray Torrington with 95lbs 12oz from peg number 17. Ray struggled until the last hour, when he found the fish by alternating his margins on the pole with Paste.
