Something a little bit different today, making use of the club’s lake and adjacent river. Randomly drawn pairs match, with one angler from the lake and one from the river pairing up in a section points match. The much needed overnight rain had stopped and the weather was set to be fair with light winds.
The idea from club member and match regular David Pike, would enable anglers to choose their favoured approach. David handled the draw, and dispatched 7 anglers to Horseshoe lake and 8 anglers onto the River Nene.
With the in-balance of anglers one lucky angler got to enter the draw twice. Would that be 2 bites of the winning cherry or double the pressure with 2 partners to let down ?
Overall winner on the lake was Antony Johnson with 99 lbs 1oz from Peg number 16. Antony fished the hybrid feeder with 60/40 mix of pellets and ground bait with a pink wafter.
Whilst on the River, the overall winner was Alan Thomas from end peg number 12 with 10lb 13oz. Alan fished double red maggot at 8m on the pole.
But today was all about points and all about the pairs. With Alan Thomas picking up 1 point and Phil Price picking up 2 points they were the winning pair with combined weight coming into play for the equal points.
In second place also with 3 points total was Paul Dotchin and the double drawn pairs partner Phil Price.
Tough fishing today with single fish caught on the lake and some river anglers struggling for even the smallest fish. Afterwards the results were collated and a presentation made at The Paper Mills, Wansford.
