David Norville - Deeping Individual League Series Winner 2025-2026
Match Report - Saturday 14th March 2026 Venue - River Nene Sibson This match was brought forward to try and take advantage of one last day on the River Nene. The weather had been great all week and the river’s flow and level had normalised. Good catches had been recorded with double figure weights in the previous week. But one heavy downpour in the early hours of Friday morning saw the river rise over a foot and the return of fast and turbulent water. It has been an awful winter with so many matches rescheduled due to the continued flooding, Oh well there will soon be a hosepipe ban ! Seventeen anglers in the hat for this one which was switched to a Saturday, the last day of the 2025/2026 river season. Fishing in the fifth and final round of the Deeping Individual League Series (DILS), last year's winner Alan Thomas was not amongst the anglers, so it would be a different name on this year's trophy. Anglers use their best four results from the five rounds to win on points and it was close going into the final round. Today was also the last chance to get amongst the many pieces of Club silverware, the highly coveted “Non-Cup Winners Cup”. First place on the day went to Steve Borrett with 5lb 7oz from peg number 21. Steve fished the 4m whip with pinkies over ground bait and hemp. Catching mostly Roach, he also landed a 2lb Perch on Worm. Steve’s win secured him the 2025/2026 Non Cup Winners Cup. Second place went to Andrew Wilson with 4lb 11oz from peg number 22. Andrew fished the 4m whip regularly alternating different hook baits over ground bait catching mostly Roach. Third place was David Norville with 4lb 2oz from peg number 10. David fished the pole 5m to hand, using double pinkie over ground bait catching mostly Roach. David’s third place gave him two second places and two third places in DILS overall, sealing him the 2025/2026 DILS trophy, his first since winning the Newman Cup in 2016/2017. His final best 4 rounds gave him victory over Paul Dotchin by just one point. Sections Wins for: Alfie Kendall, Trevor Walker and Paul Dotchin. Match Report - Sunday 1st March 2026 Venue - Relocated to Fish Refuge Stibbington Guess what ? – Yes, the River Nene was in flood conditions (again) so with available Sundays running out before the season draws to a close, the Match Secretary needed this one done and dusted. Thankfully all fourteen anglers were supportive of the switch onto the sheltered Fish Refuge at Stibbington. Today Anglers were fishing in the fourth round of the Deeping Individual League Series (DILS) with Paul Dotchin looking to extend his current lead. Also today, the anglers would be fishing for the Several Fisheries Championship. This is a Club Cup normally fished on the River Welland and recognises the Club taking single ownership of the river. Back then nearly all club matches were fished on the River Welland through the Deepings, this stretch being known as the Several Fishery, because several people, 20 in all, owned one share each. Paul Dotchin is the current holder of the Several Fisheries Championship. First Place on the day went to Mick Wright with 2lb 2oz from Peg number 2 Second Place went to Andrew Wilson with 2lb 3oz from peg number 3 Third place was a three way tie with 1lb 15oz – with Paul Dotchin on peg number 5, Neil Halliwell from peg number 7 and Dave Norville from peg number 18.
