Match Result – Sunday 19th July 2026

The second visit of the season to Decoy Lakes near Whittlesey for Deeping St James Angling Club. 12 Anglers would share and take the eastern side of the Yew strip lake. One end sheltered and basking in sunshine without a ripple and the other end in full wind and perfect chilly sailing conditions.

Today’s anglers would be fishing in the third of four rounds of the Fenland Cup and competing for the Newman Cup. The Newman Cup was donated by Cyril Newman who had a tackle shop on Lincoln Road in Peterborough, where many club members would have bought tackle and bait.

The last of the semi finals in the Individual Knockout Cup between Dave Preston and David Norville would decide who would meet David Pike in the final.

In tough conditions across the entire lake, Ray Morland emerged as the winner with 57lbs 5oz from peg number 21. Ray Started at 11m on the pole fishing corn over micros before switching to both margins later on on the same bait.

Second place to Jason Chatham with 37lbs 6oz from peg number 24. Jason fished double red maggots over dead reds on top 2 plus 1.

Third place to David Marzell with 35lbs 12oz from corner peg number 16. Dave had his first go at slapping shallow and caught on the pellet waggler and meat in the margins.
